What Is Brainspotting?
Brainspotting is a powerful, brain-body-based therapy that helps people process and release emotional pain and trauma stored deep within the nervous system. Developed by Dr. David Grand, Brainspotting works by identifying “brainspots,” or eye positions that correspond to the physical location of unprocessed experiences in the brain. By focusing on these points, clients can access and heal emotional wounds that may be difficult to reach through traditional talk therapy alone.
This approach allows clients to safely process trauma, anxiety, and other emotional blocks at a deep, neurological level. Many people describe Brainspotting as a calming and transformative experience that helps them finally let go of pain, stress, and self-limiting patterns.
What Conditions Does Brainspotting Treat?
Brainspotting can be helpful for a wide range of emotional and psychological concerns. At Endless Blessings Counseling and Coaching, we often use Brainspotting to support clients struggling with:
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and trauma recovery
- Anxiety and panic attacks
- Depression and mood disorders
- Grief and loss
- Chronic stress and emotional overwhelm
- Relationship challenges
- Performance anxiety (for athletes, professionals, and performers)
- Emotional regulation difficulties
Our therapists often integrate Brainspotting with other evidence-based methods, such as EMDR, Somatic Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy, to create a customized treatment plan that fits each client’s needs.
What Can I Expect During Brainspotting Therapy?
During a Brainspotting session, your therapist will help you identify a physical or emotional trigger and guide you in finding the eye position, or “brainspot,” connected to that feeling. As you maintain gentle focus on that spot, your brain begins to naturally process and release the underlying distress.
You don’t need to talk in detail about your trauma or relive painful memories for Brainspotting to work. Instead, the process allows your brain and body to lead the healing, with your therapist offering support and grounding throughout the session.
Many clients report feeling a sense of calm, clarity, and emotional release after sessions. Over time, Brainspotting can reduce emotional reactivity, ease symptoms of trauma and anxiety, and promote lasting emotional balance.
